How to switch to Utility Warehouse: moving gas, electricity, broadband and mobile onto one bill

Would you rather sort your bills out yourself, in your own time? You can get your own Utility Warehouse quote online and switch without speaking to anyone. Here's exactly how to do it, what to have ready, and what happens to each service.

Before you start: what to have handy

  • Your latest bills for Gas, Electricity, Broadband and Mobile, so you can compare like for like.
  • Contract end dates, so you know whether you'd pay any exit fees.
  • Your energy meter readings (or your smart meter details).
  • Your bank details for the Direct Debit.

Having these beside you makes the quote quicker and means you can compare it properly against what you pay now.

How to Switch to Utility Warehouse

Step 1: Get your quote

Click the Get Your Own UW Quote link. It opens Utility Warehouse's own quote page in a new window. Pick the services you'd like to include and fill in your details. There's no obligation, so you can look at the price and walk away if it isn't for you.

Step 2: Compare it with what you pay now

Put your quote next to your current bills. UW is at its best when you bundle several services, because the discounts stack up. If you only want one service, you might find a cheaper deal elsewhere, and that's fine. Read Is Utility Warehouse Worth It? for the honest version.

Step 3: Sign up

If you're happy with the numbers, you can carry on and sign up there and then on the same page. Most people are done in around 20 minutes. From there, UW handles the switching with your old providers.

What happens when you switch to UW: energy in about 5 working days, broadband via One Touch Switch, mobile number moved with a PAC code

What happens to your Gas and Electricity

  • Your supply never goes off. There's no engineer visit and no interruption, because it's the same pipes and cables.
  • UW contacts your old supplier, so you don't need to.
  • The switch usually completes in about five working days.
  • You'll be asked for a meter reading around the switch date, so your final bill is accurate.
  • Your old supplier sends a final bill and refunds any credit you're owed.
  • You have a 14-day cooling-off period if you change your mind.

What happens to your Broadband

Since Ofcom introduced One Touch Switch, you only need to contact your new provider. UW arranges the move, your old service ends when the new one starts, and you don't pay notice-period charges beyond the switch date. If a switch goes wrong and you're left without service for more than one working day, providers have to compensate you.

What happens to your Mobile

You can keep your number. Text PAC to 65075 from your current phone and you'll get a code back by text. Give that code to UW and your number moves across, usually within one working day. Check your current contract end date first, as leaving early can mean a fee.

What about exit fees?

If you're still in contract with your current provider, there may be an early exit fee, so check your contract end dates before you sign up. UW offers help towards exit fees (£200/£400).

And the Cashback Card?

New customers who switch several services may qualify for a welcome bonus of up to £250, loaded onto the UW Cashback Card. After that, everyday spending with the card earns cashback that comes straight off your UW bill. There's a full rundown on the Cashback Card page.

When's a good time to switch to Utility Warehouse?

Any time! With another change to the energy price cap due in January, plenty of households are looking at their bills right now. A fixed energy deal agreed before then means the January change won't affect your unit rates while the fix lasts.

Common questions

Can I switch to Utility Warehouse myself online?

Yes. You can get your own quote on Utility Warehouse's website, compare it with what you pay now, and sign up there and then without speaking to anyone.

Will my gas and electricity go off when I switch to Utility Warehouse?

No. Your supply carries on as normal throughout. There's no engineer visit and no interruption, because only the company that bills you changes.

How long does it take to switch to Utility Warehouse?

Signing up takes around 20 minutes. Energy switches usually complete in about five working days, Broadband moves under Ofcom's One Touch Switch process, and a Mobile Number usually moves within one working day once you give UW your PAC code.

Do I need to tell my old supplier I'm leaving?

No. For Energy and Broadband, UW contacts your old provider for you. For Mobile, you just text PAC to 65075 to get a code, then give it to UW.

Can I keep my Mobile Number if I switch to UW?

Yes. Text PAC to 65075 from your current phone to get your PAC code, then give it to UW and your number will move across.

What if I change my mind after switching?

For Energy you have a 14-day cooling-off period, so you can cancel without penalty in that time. Other services have their own cancellation terms, which UW sets out before you sign up.
